Sustainable Design
The project has a goal of earning LEED® Silver Certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
LEED Silver Certification
- “The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings”. (www.usgbc.org)
- The County of San Diego is committed to energy efficient, environmentally sensitive and socially conscious practices.
- The proposed project will incorporate the following design features to qualify for a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification
- Control and mitigation of storm water run-off
- Water efficient plantings and irrigation to reduce water usage
- Energy efficient roofing and glazing systems to reduce heat gain and improve interior day lighting
- High efficiency lighting and mechanical ventilation systems to reduce energy consumption and improve occupant comfort
- Recycling of construction materials
- The project will be built to accommodate photovoltaic systems
