Sustainable Design

The project has a goal of earning LEED® Gold Certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).USGBC LEED

LEED Certification

  • “The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings”. (www.usgbc.org)
  • The County of San Diego is committed to energy efficient, environmentally sensitive and socially conscious practices.
  • The proposed project will incorporate the following design features to qualify for a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification
    • Control and mitigation of storm water run-off
    • Water efficient plantings and irrigation to reduce water usage
    • Energy efficient roofing and glazing systems to reduce heat gain and improve interior day lighting
    • High efficiency lighting and mechanical ventilation systems to reduce energy consumption and improve occupant comfort
    • Recycling of construction materials
    • The project will be built to accommodate photovoltaic systems in partnership with SDG&E. A 400 kW photovoltaic system has been completed on Parking Structure A. Click here to view the County of San Diego Press Release for the completion of the Photovoltaic System

  • The Conference Center will be built to LEED Platinum standards.
