Monthly Report of Progress for January 2009

Central Plant and Utilities Construction

  • The Central Plant and Utilities construction began in October 2008.
  • Construction of block walls.
  • Installation of sewer line to the Hazard Way Gate.

San Diego Medical Examiner and Forensics Center

  • Construction continues:
    • Installation of mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment on the first floor.
    • Framing and cladding of exterior walls.
    • Framing of interior walls.
    • Roofing installation.

Office Buildings

  • Structural steel is pre-ordered for Summer 2009 installation.
  • Parking: Valet and shuttle planning are on-going to mitigate the loss of site parking due to construction.

Departmental Space Coordinator Outreach

  • Confirmation of individual workstations for each Department will occur in January 2009.
  • Presentation of Interior Design details for office functions and public spaces will occur in February 2009.

Mock up of Office Furniture

  • Onsite furniture mock-up has been constructed in Building 2. This will allow the County to approve the prototype workstation size and type.
  • The second phase mock up will be installed in February to incorporate design recommendations.

Site Planning and Landscape Design Update

  • The schematic Landscape plan for the project has been approved for further development, with input from internal County sources on influences to detailed development of the Landscape and Hardscape design. Several opportunities for sustainable design have been identified, including areas that demonstrate low-water landscaping for public information and education.
  • Fencing and Security Planning will occur in greater detail this month.

Conference Center Design Update

  • A schematic plan for the Conference Center has been provided by Lowe/RJC.
  • The Conference Center food service function will be review through Spring 2009.

Off-site Traffic Mitigation

  • Local traffic improvements, such as road widening and signalization, are in the design process for several intersections. The Overland Avenue, Farnham Street and Hazard Way engineering designs have been submitted to the City of San Diego for approval.
  • CalTrans is reviewing the Traffic Impact Study and various freeway on-ramp and off-ramp conditions.
